ABOUT MAK

Makaylee "Mak" Secrest is a theatre director, arts administrator, and dramaturg born in Baton Rouge, LA and based in Houston, TX. Mak currently serves as Individual Giving Associate at Alley Theatre and as Artistic Director of Company Onstage.

Mak's directing work is driven by a belief in theatre's ability to be both a mirror and a meeting place, a way of seeing ourselves more clearly and seeing each other more fully.

As a collaborator, she strives to balance diligent preparation and attention to detail with embracing creative problem-solving, accidental discoveries, and play. Her approach centers on subverting expectations, making stories come alive with specificity, breathing fresh life into familiar narratives, and grounding new works in timeless themes. She is most excited by projects that fearlessly explore the complexities of the human condition and work to dismantle oppressive ideologies.

In her free time, Mak enjoys collaging, live music, film photography, and learning new board games.
